Ahlberg Engineering, Inc. (AEI) is pleased to announce the expansion of our laboratory soil testing services.  AEI has recently acquired a Humboldt direct shear machine to perform direct shear testing of remolded samples per ASTM D3080.  Direct shear testing of a remolded sample is a viable method in determining the effective friction angle for Mechanical Stabilized Earth (MSE) wall backfill suitability testing.  Direct shear testing of remolded samples allows for the friction angle determination in a quicker and more cost-effective method than CD or CU triaxial testing.  Please contact AEI if interested in performing direct shear testing as well as index testing for backfill suitability analysis.
